Safe & Comfortable Veterinary Surgery for Your Dog, Cat & Small or Exotic Pets

Surgery can be a frightening event for both the patient and pet owner. The veterinarians at Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital work diligently to make the surgical experience a safe and comfortable one. From high-quality anesthesia to personal monitoring throughout, there is no finer standard of care for your pet.

Pet Anesthesia

We take anesthesia procedures seriously and every effort is make to maximize the safety and comfort of your pet. Each surgical patient is examined prior to the procedure and lab work is completed to ensure your pet is healthy enough for surgery.

A variety of anesthetic gasses are available to veterinarians, but at Crescenta Valley Veterinary Hospital, we only use the two safest products on the market:

Sevoflourane and Isoflurane. Sevoflourane is the same anesthetic used at Children’s Hospital on infants and, although considerably more expensive for us to purchase and use, offers the greatest margin of safety available.

Pet Surgery at CVVH

Our doctors and nurses exercise the utmost caution before, during, and after surgery. Our surgery table is equipped with a warm water recirculation system to maintain core temperature and keep your pet as comfortable as possible.

The veterinarians at our hospital are skilled at performing routine spay and neuter procedures as well as complex soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. To increase safety during the procedure, constant attention is paid to the patient’s heart rate, pulse, blood pressure, blood oxygen, temperature, CO2, and respiration with our Advisor SurgiVet Monitor.

Our surgical monitoring equipment measures your pet’s heart rate and vital signs to determine patient response to surgical procedures. The pulse oximeter is a sensor clip placed on the tongue that gives the surgeon an audible heartbeat and measures oxygen saturation of the blood. Our blood pressure monitors detect hypotension, find and assess hypertension, and assess anesthetic depth in surgery. The EKG machine gives us a noninvasive electrical picture of the heart. This monitoring provides a higher level of patient care for every pet.

After Surgery

Post-surgery, continual attention is paid to your pet to assure a comfortable recovery. Pain management for patient comfort and healing is tailored to meet the exact needs of your pet. We instruct you carefully prior to patient discharge and provide the medications needed to care for your pet at home. Of course, we are always available by phone during the recovery period, should you have concerns or need support.

Our veterinarians currently perform scheduled surgeries on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. For more information, contact our hospital.
